Formed in 1981 with 4 ewes from the Lightash flock and a Malton bred ram. I started Signet recording in the late 1980’s and together with the use of AI, have developed a flock of fleshy, milky ewes (high maternal indexes) producing shearling rams and ram lambs with high growth rates, high ebv for muscle and fat depth. The top 8 – 10 ram lambs are CT scanned each year. Only rams of RR status are used either on AI or naturally.

About 60 ewes lamb in the 2^nd week of January following AI. They remain inside until the end of March or until ground conditions allow. Lambs have access to creep at grass and are grown on to sell in the Autumn.

A second group of ewes including some returns from AI lamb in March and are reared on a forage only basis. All ewe lambs & ram lambs destined for shearlings are grass fed only, being away wintered on a local dairy farm at 1000 ft and then return to Garfield House Farm onto new seeds if possible.
